Coronavirus: Guidelines for short-term Singaporean visitors to Sarawak

10/02/2020 09:27 PM

KUCHING, Feb 10 -- Singaporeans making short-term visits to Sarawak for any event or function are now required to observe guidelines issued by the Health Ministry.

Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) in a statement today said under the guidelines, it would be the event organisers or secretariat’s responsibilities to take the necessary precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus 2019 (2019-nCoV).

The measures include for individuals who are unwell to avoid coming into the state for any function, meeting, gathering, conference and others, and to seek immediate medical attention should anyone fall sick during such events.

Event attendees should consider alternative forms of greetings to avoid shaking hands or making physical contact with other participants.

The organiser or secretariat must also maintain a registration list of all participants, provide face masks to those with respiratory symptoms prior to coming in, deny entry to unwell individuals, and provide hand rub or hand sanitiser at the entrances and exits of the facility or meeting room.

The event organiser or secretariat is advised to carry out temperature screening if possible, and to increase the frequency of cleaning of all commonly used areas like washrooms, registration and payment counters, and dining areas.

The committee also wanted the Immigration Department to frequently clean and wipe the thumbprint machines at its counters.

The statement came after an earlier one issued by the committee quoting its chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas today on the requirement for all travellers from Singapore coming into Sarawak to undergo a 14-day self-quarantine at home.
