KUANTAN, Feb 22 --The Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today advised university students to avoid the  ‘3K Syndrome’ of “Kuliah - Kafeteria - Katil” (Lecture - Cafeteria - Bed).

Instead, he said, they should equip themselves with other skills, and not rely solely on academic achievement to improve their marketability.

"Students should enhance their skills, like as leaders, in public speaking, in critical and creative thinking , as well as to  self-confidence to enter the workforce.

"At the same time, do not forget our manners and morals...be good to one another and study diligently,” he said in his speech when launching the “Jom Masuk IPT’ programme at the Gambang campus of Universiti Malaysia Pahang here today.

Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and UMP vice-chancellor Prof Ir Dr Wan Azhar Wan Yusoff.

He also congratulated UMP’s management and administration for the university’s success and hoped they would remain committied to bring the univfor the sake of the future generation.

"The rise and fall of our country lie with the youth of today and the government is responsible for ensuring that all universities and institutions of higher learning have the best infrastructure, including in terms of the teaching force so that the learning and research process can run smoothly," he said.

Tengku Hassanal also urged the relevant parties to improve the marketability of graduates by focusing on quality over quantity, and striking a balance between theory and practice.

Meanwhile, director of the Student Admission Division for Higher Education Institutions in the Higher Education Department, Wahi Nordin, said the two-day programme, which kicked off today, had 100 exhibitors including 20 public universities, as well as other private higher education institutions, polytechnics, community colleges and public skills training institutions.

Wahi said the programme, which had previously been implemented in Johor, would head to several other states before ending in Serdang, Selangor on March 28, with a total target of 200,0000 visitors.
