RM1 billon allotted to Food Security Fund - Muhyiddin

PUTRAJAYA, March 27 -- Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the government will allocate RM1 billion to the Food Security Fund to ensure there is sufficient and guaranteed supply of food as the country grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the government will also continue to channel various assistance to farmers, breeders and fishermen, including in the form of agricultural, livestock and fishery inputs to encourage domestic production.

“The government is also allocating RM100 million for the preparation of infrastructure facilities for food storage and distribution as well as crop integration programmes,” he said in announcing the people-centric economic stimulus package (PRIHATIN) live on national television today.

The prime minister said that in addition, the government will prepare a special fund of between RM100,000 and RM200,000 for each viable Area Farmers and Fishermen’s Organisations for the development of short-term agrofood projects that can produce results within three to six months.

“This is to ensure guaranteed food supply and involves an allocation of RM64.4 million,” said Muhyiddin.
