Kelantan introduces 'Kelantan Pay' to boost economic growth

15/09/2020 08:28 PM

KOTA BHARU, Sept 15  -- The Kelantan government has launched a digital application,  'Kelantan Pay', to boost the state's economy in a sustainable way.

Deputy Menteri Besar, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the initiative was part of the state government’s effort in preparing Kelantan for digital transformation.

He said the state government was also proactive in developing information and communications technology (ICT) to drive its economy.

"Dependence on digital economy has increased nationwide due to the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) to curb the spread of COVID-19.

"With this application, the public can make online payments for services by government agencies, local governments, government-linked companies, as well as private companies," he told reporters after launching the application at Kota Darulnaim complex, here, today.

Mohd Amr said the digital application involved collaboration among 32 agencies including Air Kelantan Sdn Bhd, Kota Bharu Municipal Council, Kelantan Islamic Foundation, National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and Kelantan Islamic Religious Affairs Department.

He said the application would improve government agencies' effectiveness in earning revenue, besides making it easy and fast for the public to make payments, in line with the Industrial Revolution (IR4.0).

"The state government aims for the use of Kelantan Pay to increase by the year-end, when all the local governments fully utilise the application for licence, city tax and other payments,” he added.
