KUCHING, Oct 12  -- The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) today announced the temporary closure of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Bintulu located in the north of the state following the confirmation of a COVID-19 case at the school.

In a statement here today, the committee said the decision was made in line with the Sarawak Education Department's order to close the school for seven days, from Oct 10-16.

“This is to enable cleaning and disinfection to be carried out as contained in the letter instructing the  school to close from the office of the deputy director-general of Education Malaysia because a COVID-19 case was confirmed (at the school),” according to the statement.

JPBN Sarawak also ordered entertainment centres violating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) during the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) to be closed for 14 days from the date the compound is issued.

“As of today, there are four entertainment centres that have been ordered to close (in Sarawak) for violating the RMCO,” he said.
