Drawbridge Towers lit up in Palestinian flag colours as show of solidarity

17/05/2021 10:07 PM

KUALA TERENGGANU, May 17 -- The iconic drawbridge towers here are fully lit in bright red, green, white and black this evening, symbolising the colours of the Palestinian flag.

The installation of the lights is a sign of solidarity between the leadership and the people of Terengganu towards Palestine, especially the people in Gaza who are currently under attack by the Israeli Zionist regime.

TI Properties Sdn Bhd chief executive officer, Khalizan Mahmud, said that the towers were lit up at 7 pm starting tonight, for the next seven consecutive evenings.

“As we are currently under the Movement Control Order (MCO), the lighting display is only for five hours daily, which is until 12 midnight.

"Hopefully, the lights will help continue nurturing the spirit in all of us to consistently support the struggle of the Palestinian people,” Khalizan said when contacted by Bernama today.

First opened to the public on Sept 15, 2019, the first drawbridge in Southeast Asia is now an icon of Malaysia's pride.

The construction of the 638-meter bridge with two 16-storey twin towers, costing RM248 million, is also served as the fourth bridge connecting Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus, after the Sultan Mahmud Bridge, Pulau Rusa Bridge and Pulau Sekati Bridge.
