Latest count of COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia

31/07/2021 07:43 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 -- The following are the updates on COVID-19 figures in Malaysia and its Southeast Asian neighbours as at 6 pm today.

Data provided by Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University and some of the countries in the region.

Thailand’s COVID-19 cases hit another record high on Saturday with 18,912 new cases and 178 fatalities reported over the last 24 hours.

As the number of new COVID-19 cases continue to rise and the deadline for walk in vaccination comes to an end, more than 10,000 people flocked to the vaccination centre at Bang Sue Grand Station in Bangkok to get their jab today.

Britain’s UN Ambassador Barbara Woodward warned that the virus is spreading through the Myanmar population very fast indeed and by some estimates half of the country's 54 million population could be infected with COVID-19 in the next two weeks.

She was quoted by Reuters as saying the United Nations’ monitors have to ensure an effective delivery of vaccines.

The table below also indicates the status of some ASEAN nations including Malaysia as at 6pm today as the COVID-19 pandemic rages on and the vaccination process moves into high gear. Number 0 indicates no updates.
