Gabonese import player Madinda extends contract with Sabah FC

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 4 -- Sabah Football Club (Sabah FC) import player from Gabon, Levy Clement Madinda has extended his contract until the end of this season, said Sabah FC manager Marzuki Nasir.

Madinda's contract ended on July 31.

He said the midfielder's contract could not be finalised earlier because the player had to settle some family matters but both parties reached an agreement it with a further option of extension until May 1, 2022.

"Levy (Madinda) has not been with his family for eight months and his wife has just undergone surgery. It is the main reason why he wanted to go home to be with his wife.

"Previously, Levy was also unable to be with his family as he was playing in the Turkish League before signing a contract with Sabah FC to play in the Super League 2021 competition," Marzuki said at the signing ceremony of the player's contract extension, here, today.

He said at the moment, Madinda's wife's condition is more stable while the (Sabah FC) management has also agreed to arrange for the player's wife to come to Sabah in the near future.

"We still need his services. After all, Levy actually still wants to play with Sabah FC and even wanted to travel with the team to Kuala Terengganu,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sabah FC head coach Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto said the return of several key players who did not play last week is expected to help "The Rhinos" collect three valuable points in the Super League match against Kuala Lumpur City FC at the Likas Stadium, tonight.

He said so far Sabah FC had not won in the last three matches after the Super League resumed following a break of almost two months.

"Tonight is a very important match because we need to grab three full points to strengthen our chances and improve Sabah FC's position in the league standings.

"We have some players who did not play in Kuala Terengganu last week such as Alto Linus and Randy Baruh who are now at their best to be in the starting line-up tonight."
