PUTRAJAYA, Oct 18 -- A total of 40 teams and 140 participants from institutions of higher learning (IPT) have confirmed their participation in the MACC IPT Anti-Corruption Debate Chief Commissioner Cup 2021.
Among the participating institutions of higher learning taking part are public institutions of higher learning, private institutions of higher learning, Teachers Education Institute (IPG) and MARA Education Institute (IPMa)
MACC Community Education Division director Datuk Razim Mohd Noor said the objective of the competition is to mould students who dare to voice their opinions on issues of corruption and integrity, in addition to creating students who uphold the value of transparency as a core value in life and rally the support of students in its efforts to eradicate corruption.
"The response is encouraging and this shows that the serious involvement of IPT students in accepting the message of anti-corruption through contests,” he said in a statement today.
The four-day event will begin on Oct 22 until Oct 24 with the finals to be held at the Dewan Serbaguna, MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
The format of the anti-corruption debate competition which uses the Malay language entirely is based on the Asian Parliamentary Debate.
It will pit two teams consisting the proposer or the government and the opposition, consisting of three main debaters and one reserve debater.
Winners of the contest will take home RM5,000 cash while the second-place winner will win RM3,000 and the third and fourth winners each will win RM1,500.
Razim said the head jury of the contest is Senior Lecturer, Technology Management and Business Faculty Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia University (UTHM) cum Supreme Class Judge of the Universiti Malaysia Debate Council (MADUM), Dr Mohd Fahmy Abdullah.
This is the second time the debate is being organised.
The team from Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) emerged winners in the debate held in 2019. The event will be carried live via MACCfm Facebook and Youtube sites.
