KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) emerged as the gold medal winner in the Best Radio Report category of the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) Petronas Journalism Awards at ‘Malam Wartawan Malaysia’ (MWM) 2021 which took place in the capital tonight.
It was won through Bernama Radio journalist Nurliyana Farhah Ruslan, who prepared the report entitled 'ADHD Bukan Pengakhiran Sebuah Kehidupan'.
The victory saw Nurliyana take home RM10,000 in cash, a certificate of participation and a trophy.
The prize was presented by Ministry of Communications and Multimedia secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohammad Mentek.
Muhammad Azim Zaid - also from Bernama Radio - won the bronze in the same category through the report entitled 'Noktahkan Sang Pedofilia', bringing home RM1,000 in cash and a certificate.
Meanwhile, Bernama TV journalists Hazlinda Hamzah, R.S Ratcharathan, Mohd Zharif Manan Zulkarnain and Muhamad Salim took home the RM1,000 bronze prize and certificate in the Best Video Documentary category entitled 'Malaysia United vs COVID-19.'
The top prize at the award known as ‘Kajai’, was won by Izwan Rozlin and Muhammad Afham Ramli of Sinar Harian, through the report entitled 'Kartel Daging Haram' which saw them bag RM30,000 along with certificates and trophies.
The Special Award went to the late Datuk Baharom Mahusin, the former editor-in-chief of Sinar Harian.
The MWM this time was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, while also present were Petronas Chemicals Group Berhad managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Sazali Hamzah and MWM 2021 chairman and MPI chief executive officer Datuk Dr Chamil Wariya.
In conjunction with the ceremony, the Prime Minister also launched a new book published by MPI entitled ‘Bisnes Media dan Prinsip Jurnalistik’ (Media Business and Principles of Journalism).
Earlier, Chamil in his speech thanked the support given by the government and corporate bodies in making the programme a success.
He said MWM 2021 was held under the new norm due to COVID-19 but was still able to offer prizes for 18 categories with sponsorships from corporate bodies amounting to RM412,500.
