Mr Lok Lok to open new outlets, expand via franchising

MASAI, March 8  -- Mr Lok Lok Johor Restaurant in Bandar Baru Seri Alam here which is fast gaining popularity for its "lok lok", a steamboat styled dish that consisted of different skewers of meat and veggies, plans to open three outlets in Johor and expand via franchising.

Its spokesman, Izwan Jamaluddin said the restaurant owner planned to open two outlets in Johor Bahru and another in Kulai, as well as make forays into franchising in the Klang Valley, particularly Kuala Lumpur, and Bangi.

Lok lok, which can either be boiled, deep fried or even grilled, is a traditional Chinese cuisine, has inspired Mohd Radzi Ab Wahab, 42, to turn it into the main menu of his restaurant for Muslims to try it too.

"With our business concept targeting the halal market, it has proven to attract people of various races to enjoy this food.

"In our expansion drive, we are focusing on high-density areas with a balanced population composition and located close to institutions of higher learning," he said in an interview on Bernama Radio in Bandar Seri Alam here in conjunction with the Johor State Election.

Izwan said the owner also planned to commercialise some of his own lok lok sauce recipes for the local and international markets.

“Indeed, the owners have made efforts in terms of research and development of his products to market the sauces which have received encouraging response in the retail market.

"We have 16 types of sauces to choose from for customers. Among the most popular are spicy sauces, mayonnaise cheese, Thai sauce, sesame sauce, and wasabi. The restaurant also plans to diversity its menu," he added.

Besides lok lok, the restaurant also offers oden, a Japanese cuisine consisting of ingredients such as boiled eggs, daikon, konjac, and processed fishcakes stewed in a light, soy-flavored dashi broth.
