FAM announce final list of 25 players for Tri-Nations Series

21/03/2022 07:09 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) -- The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) today announced the final list of 25 Harimau Malaya players who will feature in the FAS Tri-Nations Series 2022 that will begin in Singapore on Wednesday (March 23).

The FAM said in a statement that of the 30 players shortlisted by head coach Kim Pan Gon for the centralised training camp, only Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) player Syahmi Safari could not report for duty after asking for an exemption because his wife had given birth to triplets.

Syahmi was replaced by Negeri Sembilan FC defender Ahmad Khuzaimi Piee while naturalised players Dion Cools and Liridon Krasniqi will check in with the team in Singapore.

Petaling Jaya FC striker Darren Lok, meanwhile, reported for duty on March 14 but had to be dropped after testing positive for COVID-19 and his place was taken over by Kuala Lumpur City FC’s Zhafri Yahya.

Meanwhile, two players were dropped during the centralised training camp. They are JDT midfielder Nazmi Faiz Mansor, who suffered a thigh injury, and Terengganu FC goalkeeper Rahadiazli Rahalim, who tested positive for COVID-19.

The other three who won’t be going to Singapore are Hakimi Abdullah (Terengganu FC), Sharul Nazeem Zulpakar (Selangor FC) and Shio Hong Wan (JDT).

The Harimau Malaya squad will leave for Singapore tomorrow and kick off their FAS Tri-Nations Series against the Philippines on Wednesday (March 23) and the hosts on Saturday (March 26) in the Tier-1 international friendly matches.

Kim Gon’s men will round up their outing in Singapore, which is also part of their preparations for the 2023 Asian Cup Qualifiers in June, by taking on local club side Albirex Niigata FC on March 28.
