Terengganu on tourism blitz to Europe, targeting Italians, Swiss and Germans

KUALA TERENGGANU, May 24 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu government through the State Tourism Department is continuing its promotions abroad through the 10-day 'Business To Business' (B2B) sessions from tomorrow to three European countries to attract more international tourists to the state.

The delegation led by state Tourism, Culture and Digital Technology Committee chairman, Ariffin Deraman will promote the state’s attractions to the media practitioners and tourism industry in Italy, Switzerland and Germany.

Ariffin said the priority of the B2B promotion this time would be Italy as tourist influx statistics from that country showed an upward trend for three years before the COVID-19 pandemic, with 44,638 visitors in 2017, 52,011 in 2018 and 54,710 in 2019.

"In Terengganu, Italians mainly flocked to the three resort islands of Pulau Redang, Pulau Perhentian and Pulau Lang Tengah, which recorded 23,238 visitors in 2019.

"Internal projections made by Tourism Malaysia abroad found that 70 per cent of tourists from Italy to Malaysia have visited at least one of the islands in Terengganu and we are confident that the delegation's goal this time to sell more attractive holiday packages will be achieved," he said in a statement today.

Themed 'An Evening with Beautiful Terengganu, Best Paradise Islands', the promotion will have exciting features including lucky draw prizes like a three-day, two-night holiday giveaway package at two luxury resorts in Pulau Redang and Pulau Perhentian.

This year, Terengganu is targeting the arrival of three million domestic and foreign tourists through 22 activities drawn up in the tourism calendar throughout the year.
