Sarawak wants to move fast to embrace IR 4.0 - Abang Johari

13/06/2022 08:36 PM

KUCHING, June 13 (Bernama) -- The establishment of Sarawak's first Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) Prototyping Lab here today would leapfrog IR4.0 adoption in the state in line with its digital transformation, said Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the lab, from collaboration between Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) and Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Berhad (SDEC), would be a stepping stone for Sarawak to become a high-income state by 2030.

"This is Sarawak’s first IR4.0 facility and I hope that this initiative will spur us all to fully adopt this revolution. Our local industries now have a central facility providing end-to-end IR4.0 adoption, which supports leapfrogging their businesses towards IR4.0 readiness," he said in his speech to launch the lab here today.

His speech text was read by Sarawak Utility and Telecommunication Minister, Datuk Julaihi Narawi.

Abang Johari said the initiative would help local industries to be more competitive globally and subsequently, attracting foreign investment through the provision of technology, experts and local capacity development programmes to nurture a comprehensive IR4.0 ecosystem.

"We want to make sure that we are equipped with the right capabilities and tools to ensure that the industry is supported well for the digital transformation," he said.

Also present at the launching ceremony were MTDC chairman Tan Sri Abd Rahman Mamat, MTDC chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Norhalim Yunus, SDEC chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani and SDEC CEO Sudarnoto Osman.
