Being visually impaired not an obstacle to score excellent results in SPM

KUCHING, June 16 (Bernama) -- Being visually impaired since small was not an obstacle for Danny Yong Zhi Lik, 18, to score 8As in the 2021 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination.

The Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Chung Hua, Sibu student was one of the five top scorers under the special needs candidate (CBK) category.

 “I managed to score 5A+, 2A dan 1A-. Sometimes, I felt like giving up but I prayed to God to make things easier for me, and my friends helped me a lot too. 

 “I calmed myself by playing chess, and I also represented the school in chess,” Danny told Bernama today.

The youngest of three siblings, who loves history, hopes his ambition to be a history teacher one day will come true.

Another visually impaired student, Shallzuandy Abdul Wahab Abdullah, 18, who also excelled, said his mathematics teacher was one of the inspirations for him to succeed in the SPM.

Shallzuandy Abdul Wahab, who hails from Kampung Serdang, Tanjung Manis, said the home-based teaching and learning method was the biggest challenge for him due to the poor Internet connection in his village.

“At school, I needed to copy notes from friends due to my vision problem as I could not see what the teacher had written on the board.

“I always remembered my parents’ advice to study hard and the teachers telling me not to give up as they saw the potential in me to succeed,” said the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Semop student.

Shallzuandy Abdul Wahab who scored 2A, 4A-, 1B+ dan 1D in the SPM, said he did not scorer a single A in his SPM trial examination.

 The eldest of six hopes his success would be a motivation to his siblings not to give up.
