Sabah to launch state-level national month celebration this Sunday

KOTA KINABALU, July 28 (Bernama) -- The launching of the Sabah state-level National Month celebration and Fly the Jalur Gemilang 2022 campaign will be held simultaneously with the Warriors’ Day commemoration this Sunday (July 31) at Padang Merdeka, here.

State Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin along with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor were scheduled to attend the event.

Masidi, who is also the main committee chairman of the state-level National Day celebration, said the National Month celebration would begin after the Warriors' Day event, with the handover of flags by Juhar to the ministries and departments as well as various organisations for the ‘Fly the Jalur Gemilang’ campaign.

“Although the physical celebration activities cannot be held, we expect every premises to fly the Sabah and Malaysian flags," he said at a press conference on the Sabah State National Day celebration at Wisma Innoprise, here, today.

He said the organising committee would also select an individual or group among Sabah's youths who had not only succeeded in making Malaysia proud but also the state of Sabah to stand out as a symbol of its achievements at the culmination of the celebration on Aug 31.

“We are looking at some of the candidates who will be recognised on that day, who have managed to give the true meaning of independence and who have not only excelled at the national but also at the international level,” he added.

Masidi said the main event of the launch this year, namely, the parade, would exclude the participation of school students to avoid the risk of COVID-19 infection and to keep the event short.

He added that the ceremony’s programme book would contain information on Sabah, including its most expensive orchids.
