GEORGE TOWN, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- The World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) Foundation will bring its 17th Roundtable to Penang to discuss strategies for sustainable recovery to build a resilient and stable economy nationally, regionally and globally.
Chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said the roundtable would feature five topics, namely Economic Revitalisation: Mapping a Sustainable Recovery; Net Zero Transition: Growing Urgency; Digital Transformation Revolution: Embracing Technology; Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality: Capturing Opportunities; and Revitalising Waqf: Role of Islamic Finance.
“Penang is an attractive investment location and it continues to thrive today. Its path to economic growth and rejuvenation is paved by interests and investments from local and foreign investors,” he told reporters in a briefing on the roundtable here today.
He said the roundtable would also discuss the multitude of trade and investment opportunities in Penang.
Furthermore, he said the state has a lot of experience in Waqf that could be shared with other players.
He said the roundtable would generate much interest and awareness about the economic potential of Penang and highlight the rapid growth of Penang’s economy despite the lockdown and border closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He added that Penang’s robust economy, especially in industries such as IT, manufacturing and tourism, made it an attractive investment location, therefore, discussions of the roundtable would showcase the multitude of digital transformations in trade as well as investment opportunities within all the state’s economic sectors.
Themed “Economic Rebound: Transforming the Future”, the roundtable would be held on Sept 27 at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre, garnering over 300 participants, including key decision makers, state government leaders, chief executive officers and entrepreneurs from all over the world.
