Former Melaka Chief Minister laid to rest

MELAKA, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- The remains of former Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Mohd Adib Mohamad Adam were laid to rest at Melaka Heroes’ Mausoleum in Bukit Palah here at about 9.20 pm.

His body arrived at about 7.45 pm from Kuala Lumpur and was later prayed at Al-Azim Mosque after isyak prayer.

The prayer for the body was led by the Grand Imam of Al-Azim Mosque, Datuk Mohammad Hashim Al-Hafiz and it was also attended by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali and state Education, Technology and Telecommunications Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin.

Also present were state Housing, Local Government and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Zaidi Attan, Melaka State Secretary Datuk Zaidi Johari, Melaka State Mufti Datuk Abd Halim Tawil and members of the public.

Earlier, Mohd Adib, 81, breathed his last at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) at  8.20 am due to old age.

Adib who was born on July 2, 1941, took the post of Melaka chief minister from July 11 1978 to April 26 1982 apart from holding the post of Information Minister and Rural Development, Cooperatives and Entrepreneurship Minister.
