CHUKAI, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- The upgrading project of Bukit Sah water treatment plant that was completed in November last year has benefitted 325,000 consumers in Kemaman district, Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said.
According to him, the state government has spent RM670 million to upgrade the plant, which has a capacity of 255 million litres of water a day.
The plant’s capacity makes it the biggest plant in Terengganu to be equipped with a telemetry control centre to enable more effective and detailed management.
"The Bukit Sah plant has undergone several upgrading phases since being built in 1984, the last phase started in November 2015 and operations began in November 2021.
"With an increased capacity of 255 million litres of water a day, it can sustain the needs of 325,000 domestic and non-domestic users in Kemaman,” he said at the officiating ceremony of the plant here today.
Terengganu state secretary Datuk Tengku Farouk Hussin Tengku Abdul Jalil and Syarikat Air Terengganu (SATU) chief executive officer Ts Abdul Karim Endut were also in attendance.
Ahmad Samsuri said to ensure the sustainability of clean water supply in Terengganu, the state government has also implemented the North Kuala Terengganu main supply project with an allocation of RM1.3 billion.
He said that the project has been implemented in stages since March 2021 and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
"This project is expected to benefit 600,000 users in Kuala Terengganu and Kuala Nerus districts that are currently developing,” he said.
He added that the North Kuala Terengganu main supply project encompassed three packages - 20 million litres per day package in Pulau Bahagia, 44 million litre a day package in Losong, and 120 million litre a day package in Bukit Berapit.
The Pulau Bahagia and Losong packages have been completed and are being used, while the Bukit Berapit package was in the final stages of testing before beginning operations at the end of the year.
