UTM restructures academic entities to ensure sustainability

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has implemented the restructuring of its academic entities at the Engineering Faculty and Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS) for the sustainability of the university's niche areas, effective today.

In a statement, UTM said the restructuring of the Engineering Faculty involves the School of Civil Engineering (SKA) to the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FKA); School of Mechanical Engineering (SKM) to Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FKM); School of Electrical Engineering (SKE) to Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE); School of Chemical Engineering and Energy Engineering (SKT) to Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Energy Engineering (FKT); School of Computing (SK) to Faculty of Computing (FC); whereas the School of Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences will be restructured as a department under the FKE.

"The restructuring of AHIBS will involve AHIBS in UTM here to the Faculty of Management (FP), however AHIBS in UTM Kuala Lumpur has not changed," read the statement today.

According to UTM, the restructuring will see UTM having nine faculties here whereas UTM in Kuala Lumpur will have three faculties.

It said the move was to ensure that the integrity of the university's expertise can develop holistic university talent and prosper life through knowledge and technological innovation thus supporting UTM’s strategic roadmap, enVision 2025.

"UTM is optimistic that the restructuring will position this university as a superior and renowned institution based on science, technology and engineering at the global level," it added.
