KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- More than 50 delegates from Uzbekistan are attending the 17th Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) programme being organised by Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) in their country’s capital city, Tashkent.

MTCP, launched in September 1980 as part of Malaysia’s commitment to the South-South Cooperation, is a platform to share the country’s development experiences with other developing countries.

The 17th MTCP, being held from Oct 19-21 with the title “Next New Normal - Accelerating the Adoption of Industry 4.0 Technology in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Workshop for Uzbekistan”, comes at an opportune time, especially amid the economic fallout from COVID-19, MTDC said in a statement here today.

It noted that MSMEs are in survival mode, having to change and re-build their businesses in the wake of the pandemic and its after-effects.

The need to alter their business operations is deemed necessary for their survival and this is also an opportunity to expand their businesses globally by utilising digital tools to provide more business opportunities, it added.

During the workshop, MTDC addressed the various challenges faced by MSMEs such as the lack of talented human resource especially those having Industry 4.0 (i4.0) knowledge, adapting COVID-19 standard practises to their business operations, and coping in a highly competitive world through increased productivity and efficiency.

MTDC said the delegates were introduced to i4.0 solutions, marketing and business validation tools, both locally and abroad, to address their needs.

“At the end of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to collaborate with MTDC’s ecosystem companies.

“MTDC’s goal is to develop MSMEs that are able to receive technology that is right for them, with one of the avenues identified will be through the collaboration with the communities in MTDC Centre of 9 Pillars,” it said.

MTDC chief executive officer Datuk Norhalim Yunus expressed hope that MTCP participants will utilise the knowledge and experience gained to further contribute to their country, with the assistance of the experts from MTDC.
