MAFI to provide 10,000 food kits to flood victims nationwide

SHAH ALAM, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI) will initially provide 10,000 food kits to be distributed to flood victims, especially farmers, breeders and fishermen nationwide.

MAFI said it had also mobilised its operations rooms nationwide to help the affected farmers.

“The ministry has prepared as many as 10,000 food kits in the form of agro-food products as an initial preparation to help communities and farmers nationwide,” it said in a statement today.

According to MAFI, it is also providing post-disaster assistance to target groups in the affected agriculture and agro-food sectors through the Rice Crop Disaster Fund (TBTP) for rice crops and the Agro-Food Project Redevelopment Programme (PPSPA) for agro-food activities other than rice crops.

“Until October, a total RM13.5 million allocation had been channelled to 2,167 farmers affected by disasters in the paddy crops sector through the TBTP, and a total RM39.6 million channelled to 4,833 target groups through the PPSPA,” it said.

Apart from that, MAFI, through its agency, will hold an engagement session with the District Disaster Management Committee (JPDB) and State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) to ensure that information regarding flood control is always updated so that early notification can be made to target groups, in order to reduce the impact of losses to the agricultural sector.

Earlier today, the MAFI Prihatin team, headed by the ministry's secretary-general Datuk Haslina Abdul Hamid, inspected several agricultural areas affected by floods in the Klang district.
