KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- The 2022 Agong’s Cup rugby final on Saturday (Dec 3) is expected to be a tough fight between defending champions Terengganu and this season’s favourites Putrajaya at the Subang Air Base Stadium in Petaling Jaya.

Terengganu revived the opportunity to defend their maiden championship won in 2019 - which was also the last edition before the COVID-19 pandemic hit - after recording a narrow 24-22 victory over 11-time champions, Angkatan Tentera Malaysia (ATM) in the semi-finals, this afternoon.

In the match that took place at the Subang Air Base Stadium, ATM put up a good fight, taking a 12-10 lead in the first half, before Terengganu came back with 14 points to seal the victory.

Meanwhile, Putrajaya - featuring many national players - downed the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), recording a 29-24 win in the other semi-final action that took place at the same venue.

PDRM, who were seeking to end their 30-year drought for the Agong’s Cup, have won the title three times, namely in the inaugural edition in 1983, and then in 1985 and 1991, while Putrajaya are now chasing their first championship.

The match for third and fourth place between ATM and PDRM will take place at the same venue before the final.
