KUALA PERLIS, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- The continuous efforts of McDonald’s Malaysia and the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC Malaysia) in caring for the community, especially the less fortunate, should be emulated by other companies, said the Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.

“Caring for and helping the less fortunate, such as orphans and asnaf (tithe recipients), is an obligation, especially for those who have the ability like big companies,” he said during a cycling programme and presentation of back-to-school packs to students around the state here today.

Also in attendance was the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Hajjah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

McDonald’s Malaysia managing director and local operating partner Datuk Azmir Jaafar and Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) chief executive officer Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor were also present.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said he hoped that this effort would be implemented continuously to help the state’s economy, especially in terms of providing job opportunities and skills training to the people.

Meanwhile, Azmir said McDonald’s Malaysia and RMHC Malaysia spent a total of RM250,000 to distribute back-to-school packs containing stationery sets, exercise books and water bottles to students from underprivileged families in the state.

He said McDonald’s Malaysia and RMHC Malaysia also donated new mattresses, pillows and bed sheets worth RM15,000 to orphans at Teratak Rahmat, Persatuan Al Islah Perlis.

Azmir, who is also RMHC Malaysia president, said the social initiative was the main thrust of McDonald’s Malaysia to create a positive impact on the people, especially the community around its outlets.
