Syrian Health Ministry launches oral cholera vaccination campaign in four provinces

DAMASCUS, Dec 5 (Bernama) -- Syrian Health Ministry on Sunday launched an oral cholera vaccination campaign that aimed to protect all children above the age one year old in four provinces from the disease. 

The campaign which will run until Dec 15 will be carried out in the provinces of Aleppo, Hasaka, Raqqa and Deir Ezzor, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported. 

Director of Primary Health Care Department at the Ministry, Dr. Razan Tarabishi the campaign is being implemented through 63 health centers, 685 mobile teams, and with the participation of 2,269 health workers.

Tarabishi added that the vaccine is safe, approved, and used worldwide successfully and has proven its effectiveness, according to SANA.

Dr. Tarabishi said that the epidemiological situation of the disease is under control and in a phase of decreasing, noting that basis for disease prevention remains the use of water, eating food from a safe source, in addition to adhering to public health behavior, particularly hand washing.
