KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 29 (Bernama) -- Two national shooters, Johnathan Wong Guanjie and Nurul Syasya Nadiah Mohd Arrifin were sent packing in the opening round of the 2023 World Shooting Championships after failing to get off their mark in the qualifying round of the men’s and women’s 10 meter (m) air pistol, in Jakarta, Indonesia today.

According to the International Shooting Sport Federation’s website, issf-sports.org, Vietnam SEA Games gold medallist Jonathan Wong ended the men’s 10m air pistol competition in 16th spot after accumulating 570 points, thus failing to make the cut as the top eight shooters who move into the next stage.

In the men’s 10m air pistol, Mukhammad Kamalov from Uzbekistan took the gold while Turkiye’s Keles Ismail took the silver and Muhamad Iqbal Raia Prabowo from Indonesia was third.

Suffering a similar fate was 2022 SUKMA gold medallist Nurul Syasya who finished in 14th spot in the women’s 10m air pistol with 569 points.

South Korean shooter Oh Ye Jin shot down the gold while Steiner Slyvia from Austria took the silver ahead of Taiwan’d Liu Heng Yu.
