Sri Pahang FC set sights on top five finish

21/02/2023 12:35 AM

KUANTAN, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- Sri Pahang FC (SPFC) head coach Fandi Ahmad has set a realistic target for the team to finish among the top five in the upcoming 2023 Malaysian League competition.

He said he did not want to set too high an expectation as the players were still in the process of forming a good understanding, with several of them still out injured.

"Everyone wants to win but we have to be realistic and our target is to be in the top five, if we manage to finish third, Alhamdulillah.

"A part of the Sri Pahang team comprises new faces, however, while training in Bangkok during the pre-season, the players have managed to adapt well, although two or three of our players are still injured," he said.

He was speaking at a press conference after the launch of the 2023 Sri Pahang FC team jersey and introduction of the new line-up, which was also attended by Tengku Arif Temenggong Pahang Tengku Fahd Mua'adzam Shah Sultan Ahmad Shah, SPFC chairman Raja Datuk Seri Shaharudin Shah Raja Jalil Shah and SPFC chief executive officer Datuk Mohammed Suffian Awang.

At the event, SPFC introduced the 'home' and 'away' jerseys in a combination of blue and yellow, while the third white jersey was sponsored by sports equipment supplier, Hakka Clo.

Invest Pahang is the main sponsor of SPFC this year, while the co-sponsors are Arwana Travel and Tours, Data Sukan and XOX Berhad.

Fandi also said he did not intend to think about other targets such as the AFC Cup and was more focused on collecting as many points as possible from each match.

"If successful in the mission to collect points, then we will look in that direction (AFC Cup chances)... for the time being I cannot talk about it,” he said.

Meanwhile, SPFC manager Datuk Dollah Salleh praised the preparation of the Tok Gajah squad for the upcoming season.

"This season the preparation of the Sri Pahang squad is seen to be more outstanding under the head coach (Fandi Ahmad) and I believe he will be able to take the team forward," he said.
