Malakoff Rebrands Towards Sustainability, Greener Future

KUALA LUMPUR, May 31 (Bernama) — Malakoff Corporation Berhad (Malakoff) today has rebranded itself with a new logo and a renewed business direction towards sustainability and a greener future.

Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said Malakoff’s refreshed business purpose was the culmination of its desire to be a sustainably driven organisation.

He said with three new entities under the Malakoff banner, comprising Malakoff Green Solutions, Malakoff Environmental Solutions, and Malakoff Energy, the company has gone beyond energy production to be a holistic environmental advocate.

“This is exactly the 360 view we need from the corporate sector to bring an environmentally-friendly circular economy into fruition. I challenge other Malaysian companies to consider similar paradigm shifts,” he said in his speech at the launch of Malakoff’s New Brand Identity today.

Besides that, Nik Nazmi said he was intrigued to learn that Malakoff has plans of expanding into the waste-to-energy segment, as this was a sector the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change (NRECC) has been keen on as well.

He said in this paradigm shift to circularity, all parties need to look at ‘waste’ as a resource in and of itself as there was a significant but yet untapped potential in sewage by-products, particularly bio-solids, bio-effluents, and biogas.

“Creative reuse of these by-products can greatly reduce wastage, while lengthening the life of our existing natural resources. I hope Malakoff’s future endeavours in this field will serve to inspire others to come onboard our vision for ‘closing the loop’,” he added.

Meanwhile, Malakoff chairman Tan Sri Dr Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, in his welcoming speech, said the rebranding signalled the company’s commitment to spearheading the global green revolution as well as championing the government’s efforts at transitioning to a circular economy.

He said Malakoff’s core pillars were directly aligned with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Malaysia’s own environmental ambitions.

“(This rebranding marks) a new chapter in our journey as an independent power producer and environmental management company.

“From our humble roots, we have emerged as a global leader in the energy and environmental solutions sectors and are now at the vanguard of the movement towards a sustainable future,” he added.

On the rebranding initiative, Malakoff, in a statement today said the renewed direction has steered it to diversify its portfolio of businesses with a greater emphasis on renewable energy and comprehensive environmental solutions by creating three new brand entities under its new brand architecture.

It said the new logo underscored the establishment of the three new entities fulfilling its aspiration to be a champion driving a sustainable future through collaboration and partnership with relevant parties.
