BANDUNG, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's new ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Md Hasrin Tengku Hussin today visited the office and factory of PT Errita Pharma (PTE), the Indonesian plant of Pharmaniaga Bhd, in Bandung, West Java.

He was welcomed by Pharmaniaga deputy chief executive officer Zulkifli Jafar, PTE operations chief Ikhwan Fadhli and PTE Piping director Pratamadita.

The site of the pharmaceutical production company, which was founded in 1973, was acquired by Pharmaniaga in 2014 from its Indonesian owner, with a land area of 1.65 hectares and a built-up area of 1.15 hectares in Rancaekek.

Syed Md Hasrin was briefed on the company's plan and strategy in Indonesia, which aims to produce new products for the low-income patient segment and gradually move to the higher-income patient segment.

He was enthusiastic about PTE's activities and thanked them for their part in bringing about Malaysian and Indonesian collaboration in the pharmaceutical industry for the good of the republic's citizens.

Since Indonesia has so much potential in the healthcare industry, he added, "We hope the firm can explore further prospects.”

Along with lessening reliance on industrialised nations, Syed Md Hasrin hopes Malaysia and Indonesia will collaborate to make vaccinations to stop the spread of diseases or viruses like COVID-19.

He and the embassy entourage were also given a tour of a plant where they spoke with PTE personnel. PTE employs 353 people, including 36 executives and 317 non-executives.

Pharmaniaga is focused on growing its business in accordance with the goals of the Indonesian government to advance the healthcare industry, particularly pharmaceuticals.

This November, the generic drug manufacturer PTE will observe its 50th year in business. PTE's products are sold all across Indonesia.

"We express our appreciation to the government and agencies at the embassy, such as the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry and the Malaysian Overseas Development Corporation (Matrade) which provides a lot of support and assistance," said Zulkifli.
