Polls: T'ganu Records Highest Voter Turnout With 74.79 Pct

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Terengganu recorded the highest voter turnout among the six states that conducted elections on Saturday (Aug 12) with 74.79 per cent.

Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh said this was followed by Kedah with 73.86 per cent, Penang (72.67 per cent), Selangor (72 per cent), Negeri Sembilan (68.35 per cent) and Kelantan (60.96 percent).

"The total voting percentage includes regular voters, early voters and postal voters who have voted," he said in a statement issued on Sunday.

Also held simultaneously with the six state elections was the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election which recorded a voter turnout of 73.34 percent, he said.

Abdul Ghani informed that for the Terengganu state polls, PAS swept all 32 seats contested.

In Kedah, Perikatan Nasional (PN) captured 33 out of 36 seats and Pakatan Harapan (PH) got three, while in Kelantan, PAS captured 43 out of 45 contested seats, with Barisan Nasional (BN) and PH getting one each.

In Penang, PH won 27 out of 40 contested seats, while in Selangor, PH won 32 out of 56 contested seats, while PN won 22 and BN got two.

In Negeri Sembilan, PH won 17 out of 36 seats, BN got 14 and PN got five.

Meanwhile, Abdul Ghani said that in the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election, PAS recaptured the seat, with its candidate Datuk Ahmad Amzad Hashim defeating PH candidate Azan Ismail with a majority of 47,266 votes.
