KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 22 (Bernama) -- The Education Ministry’s (MOE) move to implement the ‘Imam Al-Nawawi’s 40 Hadith’ appreciation module in secondary schools received positive response from teachers.

Former deputy principal of Kuala Berang Mara Junior Science College, Omar Adam, said the initiative should be commended but stressed that its execution must be well-organised and structured.

He suggested that the ideal way to teach the module was through practical or experiential learning to ensure its effectiveness.

“This means that the sharing of a hadith should be immediately followed by practical examples or actions based on those hadiths.

“For instance, in the concept of ‘addin annasihah’ or religion is advice, students are asked to advise others and understand the meaning of the hadith while doing so, rather than just learning the theory,” he told Bernama.

Meanwhile, Abdul Hadi Sulaiman who teaches Pendidikan Islam and Tasawwur Islam at a secondary school here said the move to implement the module was timely as today’s youth were increasingly exposed to moral problems.

“Imam Nawawi’s 40 hadiths include all the hadiths related to mankind which are the basis of aqidah (creed) that are important for Muslims.

“An interactive method is necessary for students to truly understand and appreciate these hadiths,” he said.

Last Saturday, MOE launched the ‘Imam Al-Nawawi’s 40 Hadith’ appreciation module aimed at fostering the values of the Prophet Muhammad’s sayings or ‘hadith’ at the school level.

The module will first be implemented at National Religious Secondary Schools (SMKA) and Government Aided Religious Schools (SABK) before being distributed to schools under the ministry next year.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek reportedly said that the module allowed teachers and students to gain an appreciation for the collection of 40 hadith compiled by Imam Al-Nawawi, especially the values contained within them.
