Matrade, Mdec Collaborate To Enhance Malaysian Tech Companies’ Global Footprint

11/09/2023 08:55 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to further enhance and strengthen Malaysian tech companies’ (MTCs) global footprint.

MATRADE senior board member Datuk Hazimah Zainuddin said the MoU aimed to better facilitate the existing export-ready MTCs through concerted efforts in trade promotion activities and strengthen their global footprint.

“Following the MoU, MATRADE and MDEC will also partner together for coordination of Malaysia’s participation at Tokyo Game Show 2023 from Sept 21 to Sept 24, which would see the participation of 20 companies within the creative content, game development and publishing, animation outsourcing production as well as creative IP development,” she said at the MoU signing ceremony between MATRADE and MDEC on the sidelines of MATRADE’s International Sourcing Programme (INSP) here today.

The programme was held in conjunction with the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2023.

The MoU was signed by MATRADE chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Mohd Mustafa Abdul and MDEC CEO Mahadhir Aziz and witnessed by Hazimah.

Hazimah said it is critical to make Malaysia a digitally vibrant nation that includes helping industries “tech up” by accelerating tech adoption, spurring the next generation of tech innovation companies and developing business opportunities by leveraging new data sources as outlined in New Industrial Masterplan (NIMP) 2030.

Mohd Mustafa, in a statement today, said the partnership would result in a greater level of collaboration between both agencies, which in turn would accelerate the transformation of local tech champions into global players.

“NIMP 2030 focuses on the government’s mission to get Malaysian businesses to embrace technology and digitalisation to drive innovation, enhance productivity and create new opportunities for economic growth.

“As such, there is a need for agencies like MATRADE and MDEC to streamline our initiatives further and embrace a whole nation approach in our promotion abroad,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mohd Mustafa said MIHAS 2023, the world’s largest showcase dedicated towards the halal sector, would be leveraging innovative solutions such as digital tools to support exhibitors’ export aspirations further and ensure it remains on track to achieve its stated sales target of RM2.5 billion.

Hosted by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) and organised by MATRADE, MIHAS 2023 will be held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur from Sept 12 to Sept 15.
