Unimap Students Proud To Perform On Malaysia Day In Tallinn

TALLINN (ESTONIA), Sept 16 (Bernama) -- Students of Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) are excited to be given the opportunity to perform the “Ayam Didik” dance and “Silat Tari”, as well as sing the national anthem Negara Ku in conjunction with Malaysia Day celebration here today.

One of them, Ang Sian Feng, 23, from Kota Bharu, Kelantan, said she was excited to celebrate Malaysia Day in Estonia.

"No matter where we are, we should be proud to be Malaysians living in a multi-racial and multi-religious country that is rich in various customs and cultures," she told Bernama here today.

Ang is in the entourage of the 17th UniMAP Knowledge Tour led by the Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullaild, who is also UniMAP Chancellor, to the Baltic countries from Sept 10 to 17.

 Also in attendance were the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis Tuanku Dr. Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, who is UniMAP pro-chancellor, and UniMAP vice-chancellor  Datuk Prof Dr Zaliman Sauli.

Ang,  a final-year Computer Engineering student, said she was excited to be able to sing the national anthem before a European audience.

"We had the local people stop to watch our performance and they asked what the show was all about. I explained to them that we are celebrating Malaysia Day," said Ang, who participated in the “Ayam Didik” dance performance.

Another student, Duane Regen Anak Broster, 23, who is from Kuching, Sarawak, said he was happy to celebrate Malaysia Day in Estonia because it gave him the opportunity to introduce Malaysia abroad.

"As a child of Borneo, I am definitely proud to celebrate Malaysia Day because it is a symbol of the unification of Peninsular Malaysia with Sabah and Sarawak," he added.

Estonia is a republic that practices parliamentary democracy and has 15 counties.

Tallinn is the capital of the Baltic country and has a population of 1.3 million people.

 It is known as a digital country and has more than ten companies with Unicorn status, which are companies with revenues exceeding US$1 billion.
