KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Lawn Bowls Federation (MLBF) will hold the inaugural Malaysia Lawn Bowls League next year, said its president, Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz.

He said the league will be held in five zones nationwide, namely, north, south, central, east coast and Sabah/Sarawak.

"Besides giving more exposure to the national players, the league will also be a platform to unearth new talent nationwide,” he told a media conference today.

Meanwhile, Awalan also announced that the MLBF will send Mohd Idham Amin Ramlan and Aleena Ahmad Nawawi, who won the women's pairs title at the 2023 World Bowls Championships with Nur Ain Nabilah Tarmizi, to Scotland for the 2023 World Junior Championships.

He said Mohd Idham and Aleena will compete in the individual events as well as combine for the mixed pairs event.

Awalan also said that Aleena-Nur Ain Nabilah, men's pairs bronze medallists in the world meet Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple-Mohd Soufi Rusli and women's bronze medallist in the World Singles Champion of Champions Nurul Alyani Jamil received umrah packages worth RM20,000 sponsored by Affin Bank.

Aleena-Nur Ain Nabilah created a sensation recently when they ended Malaysia's 15-year wait for the gold medal when they defeated Malta's Rebecca Rixon and Connie-Leigh Rixon 15-9 in the final at the Broadbeach Bowls Club in Gold Coast, Australia.

Malaysia last won the gold medal through Safuan Said when he emerged champion in men's singles in the 2008 edition.
