KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- The Pemangkin IP360 Metaverse, an initiative by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) launched today at Malaysian Digital Content Festival 2023 (MYDCF 2023) will further accelerate Malaysia’s journey towards becoming a global digital powerhouse.
Digital and Communications Ministry (KKD) secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa said the ministry in partnership MDEC has taken on the responsibility of nurturing and guiding this initiative with the aim to provide the infrastructure, regulations and support, necessary to cultivate a vibrant and sustainable metaverse ecosystem in the country.
“This initiative is a testament to Malaysia's commitment to staying at the forefront of digital innovation, fostering a dynamic ecosystem and ensuring our nation's relevance in the digital age.
“This metaverse will not only offer a new dimension to entertainment and social interactions, but also serve as a platform for businesses, education, healthcare and various other sectors to innovate and thrive,” he said when officiating MYDCF 2023 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), here today.
Through this initiative, the government has allocated RM12 million for MDEC to run incentive programmes aimed at advancing the metaverse and extended reality (XR) programmes, designed to stimulate national investment and development opportunities for Malaysian creators and studios.
Mohamad Fauzi also invited all stakeholders including tech giants, startups, content creators, educators, policymakers and enthusiasts to join in shaping the Pemangkin IP360 Metaverse.
“Together, we can harness the potential of this transformative technology to drive economic growth, empower our citizens and elevate Malaysia's standing on the global digital stage,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Fauzi said MYDCF organised by MDEC has grown into an annual celebration of creativity and digital, showcasing the diversity and ingenuity of Malaysian talents, adding that this year's festival is set to be the most exciting yet with a plethora of digital experiences, workshops and opportunities for networking.
“It is truly heartening to witness the collective enthusiasm of industry leaders, content creators, innovators and tech enthusiasts who have come together under one roof to celebrate the remarkable achievements in the realm of digital content. This initiative will undoubtedly shape the future of our digital landscape,” he said.
MDEC Digital Creative Content Director, Mohan Low in a press conference later said MYDCF 2023 from Sept 27 until Oct 1 at KLCC is a grand celebration of digital content and innovation to showcase an exciting lineup of major players from the digital content industry, including game developers, animation studios, digital comic creators, and pioneers in immersive technologies.
He said MDEC is expecting close to 4,000 visitors among industry players and over 20,000 public visitors throughout the festival.
