During the qualifying round at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre, Johnathan and Nurul Syasya Nadiah finished in seventh place out of 20 teams. They scored only 573 points.

Only the top six teams qualify for the finals.

BOXING:

It's the end of the road for national boxer Mohd Aswan Che Azmi after he lost 5-0 to Taiwan's Kan Chia Wei in the quarter-finals of the men's 63.5-kilogramme (kg)-71kg event at the Hangzhou Gymnasium today.

XIANGQI:

Malaysia notched their second win in the mixed team event when they defeated Macau 2-0 on the third day of the competition at the Hangzhou Qi-yuan (Zhili) Chess Hall today.

Yesterday, the national team suffered two straight defeats when they lost 2-0 to Hong Kong and Vietnam.

The national team began their campaign with a 2-0 win over Thailand on Thursday (Sept 28).

It was a disappointing display by the national men’s squad on the second day of competition after going down 0-2 to both Taiwan and Hong Kong at the  Qi Yuan (Zhili) chess hall.

The women’s squad, on the other hand, finally secured a win in their third match after defeating Mongolia 2-0, but then went down 0-2 to Thailand later.

The men will now play China while the women will meet Japan on the final day of the qualifying round of the board game that has its origins in China.
