KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- NTT Global Data Centers Corporation, a subsidiary of information technology (IT) infrastructure and services company NTT Ltd, has launched a new data centre involving an investment of over RM234 million (US$50 million).

Cyberjaya 6 (CBJ6), the sixth data centre on NTT’s Cyberjaya campus, aligns with Malaysia's digital growth vision of becoming an “Asian Digital Tiger” by 2025, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) and NTT said in a joint statement today.

“CBJ6 has a critical IT load of seven megawatts, 4,890 square metres of space, two 33-kilovolt substations with diverse power reception and advanced cooling wall technology to maintain a stable environment for high density racks up to 15 kilowatts,” they said.

Mida chief executive officer Datuk Wira Arham Abdul Rahman said NTT’s continuous expansion in Malaysia is a strong testament to the company’s confidence in Malaysia’s capability as a data centre hub in the region.

“Aligned with the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), Mida will continue to attract strategic high-tech projects that will position Malaysia as a digitally connected nation, characterised by extensive and reliable digital infrastructure,” he said.

He also said Malaysia has garnered a strong reputation in the global data centre sector, particularly in the Southeast Asia region.

Arham said that the country's data centre market size is estimated to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 16.15 per cent between 2022 and 2027 and is forecast to increase by US$2.91 billion (RM13.68 billion) based on a Technavio report.

NTT Global Data Centres Malaysia managing director Ho Yee Chung said the NTT Cyberjaya campus has evolved in sync with Malaysia's digital growth over the past two decades.

“NTT Global Data Centres Malaysia proudly maintains 24/7 high availability, thanks to our skilled team of 60 engineers and operators. With CBJ6's launch, we believe we are the prime provider of data centre services, offering modern facilities and expertise that the hyperscalers in Malaysia need,” he said.

The statement also noted that the soon-to-commence submarine cable MIST, constructed by NTT as one of the shareholders, is poised to revolutionise connectivity at the NTT Cyberjaya Data Centre, elevating Malaysia’s global network connectivity and contributing to sustainable socio-economic growth.

“Spanning an impressive 8,100 kilometres, it will seamlessly connect Malaysia, India, Singapore, and Thailand, boasting a 12-fibre pair capacity capable of transmitting over 200 terabits per second of data,” it added.
