MELAKA, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The Melaka Road Transport Department (JPJ) has taken action against 132 vehicles found to have committed various offences under the Commercial Vehicle Special Operations held from Oct 1 until today.

Its director, Muhammad Firdaus Shariff said 346 notices were issued to drivers and vehicle owners throughout the operations, which involved the inspection of 678 commercial vehicles.

"The operations involved the comprehensive inspection of commercial vehicles, especially offences related to overloading, with stern action taken against those who flouted the regulations.

"There were seven main offences detected, namely failure to obey the traffic lights, using mobile phones, driving in the emergency lane, cutting queues, overtaking on double lines, not wearing seat belts and carrying loads in a dangerous manner,” he told reporters at Bukit Katil here today.

Elaborating, Muhammad Firdaus said the Melaka JPJ also confiscated three commercial vehicles under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) involving vehicles with expired Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM or road tax) and driving licence.
