KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- The RM30 million allocation for the development and growth of esports in the nation via Budget 2024 showcases the government's testament to becoming a recognised esports hub in the region.

Yoodo head Chow Tuck Mun said esports continues to grow and there are many local and upcoming esports players that are making a name for themselves in the scene.

“From Yoodo’s point, having been involved in esports since our inception and having helped shape the ecosystem somewhat through our active participation, we feel that Malaysia has tremendous potential and great raw talent to shine bright in the global arena.

“However there’s still some way to go in terms of building the right infrastructure, and coaching expertise and facilities, and creating a name for the nation as an esports hub,” he said in a statement today.

For example, he said, PUBG Mobile Super League - Southeast Asia Fall 2023, a regional league, which was recently hosted in Malaysia is a feather in the cap for Malaysia, and he look forward to Malaysia hosting a global level tournament or league soon.

“We at Yoodo, as the nation’s first fully digital telco, along with the support of the government, will continue our commitment to developing the industry and aim to put Malaysia on the map when it comes to esports,” he added.

Meanwhile, Yoodo is excited to learn about the government’s allocation of RM20 million to the development of youths in the nation through Rakan Muda.

“We are confident that through the government’s support, along with our strong partnership with Rakan Muzik under Rakan Muda, Yoodo will continue to play a pivotal role in the development of the nation’s youth through music, esports and many other areas, giving us the opportunity to relate, engage and grow the youths of this nation.

“We also hope to get involved in Rakan Digital’s initiatives in 2024 as we have a lot to contribute and share being one of the main players in esports and gaming,” he said.

Launched in January 2018, Yoodo is an independent digital mobile service provider that offers the country’s first truly customisable mobile service with complete transparency, flexibility and customer convenience.
