KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- The national youth hockey squad will appear with a different image but retain the yellow and black colours after the new Young Tigers jersey was introduced for the 2023 Men's Junior World Cup (JWC) challenge from Dec 5-16 at the National Hockey Stadium, Bukit Jalil.

The president of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (KHM) Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said the jersey, specially designed by the KHM, will retain the yellow and black identity as a symbol of the Malaysian squad besides a flag as a badge on the chest.

"I think the colours of yellow and black bring more spirit as a Malaysian athlete. The blue jersey reflects our flag. In fact, all the colours in the jersey reflect the colours in Jalur Gemilang.

"We also make sure there is a flag on the chest, which means the national squad will carry the Malaysian flag and play with all their heart," he told reporters at the TNB Mock Cheque Presentation and Young Tigers Team Jersey Presentation ceremony here today.

Earlier, the Young Tigers squad today also received an injection of funds of RM1 million from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) as the Young Tigers' main sponsor.

Meanwhile, commenting on the preparations for JWC, Subahan said so far all preparations were in full swing as planned.

"So far everything is ready, there are only a few things left, God willing everything is in good condition.

"We are very confident that we can organise a good tournament, there are no financial problems but we hope the organisers will come and help us, I hope more people can come to help," he said.

Subahan said so far three teams namely Chile, Australia and Belgium have arrived safely to undergo training in Malaysia.

The JWC is a bi-annual tournament for players aged 21 and under, featuring 16 countries competing for the championship.
