KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia-New Zealand Networking event served as a great platform to foster economic ties between both countries besides introducing the essence of Malaysia to the Kiwi community in Auckland, says New Zealand Malaysia Business Association (NZMBA).

Its president, Dave Ananth, said the event held in Auckland on Nov 23 featured an exhibit showcasing a variety of Malaysian-imported food and beverages, emphasising the diverse offerings of the nation.

“One of the highlights was a compelling presentation by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC), represented by its senior executive, Areej Taufik, which aimed to dispel misconceptions and to address concerns regarding palm oil usage, particularly its impact on wildlife in regions like Borneo,” he said in a statement to Bernama.

The event, attended by Malaysian High Commissioner to New Zealand, Mazita Marzuki,  was convened by key entities from the NZMBA and the Malaysian government, namely from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and the MPOC.

Bringing together local businesses with government representatives, the event provided an exceptional opportunity for high-level networking and collaboration.

During the event, Dave said the Malaysian High Commission emphasised the enduring cordial relationship between New Zealand and Malaysia, further accentuated by the existing Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two nations.

He said the event served as a pivotal moment to strengthen economic ties and foster collaborative efforts between Malaysia and New Zealand, setting a promising trajectory for future engagements and mutual prosperity.

Dave also expressed his optimism for future similar engagements in 2024 and beyond, citing the necessity to reignite the economy after the COVID-19 pandemic.
