LABUAN, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- The Kimanis Training and Rehabilitation Complex for Persons with Disabilities has witnessed the successful development of highly skilled trainees.

Having undergone intensive training programmes lasting between nine to 24 months, individuals across various categories of disabilities now express confidence in seamlessly integrating into the service sectors.

Currently, the complex, which is in Kimanis, Papar, Sabah offers four comprehensive programmes namely bakery, computer skills, sewing, and rattan furniture making.

Its principal Dg Suhaila Pg Suhaimi commended the trainees for their unwavering commitment and discipline throughout the training period.

Addressing potential employers, she urged them to discard any preconceived notions and stigmas surrounding the capabilities of trainees with disabilities, emphasising their ability to meet and exceed expectations.

"We hope employers will get rid of the stigma that such trainees are not able to meet their expectations," she said in an interview with Bernama here today.

A group from the Labuan Media Practitioners Association led by its advisor Azman Sipan had visited the complex recently.

Dg Suhaila highlighted the complex’s existing collaborations with ATI College and SJ Tailor, expressing eagerness to establish more partnerships with other institutions and industry players in the near future.

“The Training and Rehabilitation Complex for the Disabled stands as a testament to the potential within every individual, showcasing that with the right training and support, disabled individuals can contribute meaningfully to various industries.

"Disabled trainees, particularly those with no communication barriers, demonstrate proficiency in both Malay and English, facilitating seamless communication and enabling employers to assign tasks more efficiently," she said.

Dg Suhaila also disclosed the achievement of yet another significant milestone for the complex, as over 10 trainees with disabilities actively participated in the Para Sukma Games, with one even making a commendable entry into the Paralympics.
