Kpdn To Also Organise Rahmah Sales In Perlis Remote Areas

PADANG BESAR, Dec 9 (Bernama) -- The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) will also organise Rahmah Sales programmes in remote areas, with small populations, that are far away from the Kangar city centre to provide the people access to cheaper food supplies.

Its Perlis director, Norazah Jaapar said her team has since September been organising mobile Rahmah Sales once a month on Saturdays in Kampung Wang Kelian, near here, which is under the Beseri state constituency.

“The organisation of the mobile Rahmah Sales programme in Kampung Wang Kelian each month is in addition to the existing two Rahmah Sales programmes per month in each state constituency in Perlis,” she said when met by Bernama at the mobile Rahmah Sales in Kampung Wang Kelian held at the Nurul Husna mosque today.

"So, this mobile Rahmah Sales programme in Kampung Wang Kelian is in addition to (the organising schedule) twice a month in other areas which are still going on."

A Bernama survey found that a round-trip involving Kangar-Kampung Wang Kelian-Kangar is about 80 kilometres, and the public needs to go through hilly roads to get there while there is no nearby supermarket or grocery store for residents to buy their supplies.

Norazah said organising the mobile Rahmah Sales programme in the village is one of the government's efforts to ensure all residents in Perlis, including rural residents, can enjoy the initiative which was introduced to help them reduce their cost of living.

"People have the option to buy goods according to their ability or to buy food supplies at a cheaper price where there is a discount of between 10 to 30 per cent compared to the normal price," she said.

She said it was understood that the people there needed to go to Titi Tinggi town, near here, which is about 20 kilometres from the village area to buy food supplies.

Meanwhile, Norazah said KPDN will implement the Rahmah Sales programme in each parliamentary constituency in Perlis next year.

At the same time, she also said the sales value from the Rahmah Sales programmes in Perlis for the period from April to November last year recorded a total of RM3,414,702.30, with 186,793 visitors.
