MELAKA, Dec 15 (Bernama) --The Upin Ipin Theme Park, which was originally planned to be developed in Alor Gajah, is now in the final stage of negotiations between the popular animation film company Les' Copaque Production Sdn Bhd and MCorp.
Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said negotiations on the terms and conditions for the utilisation of 55.85 hectares of land earmarked for the construction of new tourism products in the state are expected to be finalised within two weeks.
“Once an agreement is reached, we expect the new tourism product to be realised within the next two years. The construction cost of the theme park will be borne by Les’ Copaque Production Sdn Bhd.
“The state government will assist in obtaining permits and facilitate the process so that the construction work can proceed promptly,” he told reporters after officiating the Upin and Ipin Carnival today.
Also present was Les' Copaque Production producer and managing director Burhanuddin Md Radzi.
Ab Rauf said that Upin Ipin Theme Park will be one of the local theme parks with international standards which will attract domestic and foreign tourists.
He also hopes that the construction of the theme park will spread the fame of Upin Ipin animation to all walks of life, locally and abroad.
Ab Rauf said about 300,000 visitors are expected to visit the three-day Upin and Ipin Carnival themed ‘Animasi Kesayangan Keluarga’ (Family Favourite Animation) which starts today.
