KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysia voices its full support for Laos as the Chair of ASEAN 2024 during the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat (AMM) in Luang Prabang today.

According to Wisma Putra via Facebook post, the support was expressed by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who led the Malaysian delegation at the retreat that began today.

Meanwhile, in his Facebook post about the retreat, Mohamad, as the co-chair and Permanent Shepherd of the High-Level Task Force on ASEAN Community Post-2025 Vision (HLTF-ACV), announced that the special task force has commenced the formulation of the ASEAN Political Security Community (APSC) Strategic Plan.

"Malaysia aims to adopt the ASEAN 2045 Community Vision and its Strategic Plan during the 46th ASEAN Summit in 2025," he said.

According to Mohamad, concerns about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict were also raised, and Malaysia urged the Israeli regime to immediately cease violence and mass killings involving children and women in Palestine.

Malaysia also called for non-discrimination in the implementation of international law, especially regarding the Palestinian issue, he said.

It is similar to the situation in Myanmar, requiring ASEAN unity to help restore stability in the country and address issues related to refugees, particularly the Rohingya people, Mohamad stated.

He said Malaysia also expressed concerns about the situation in the South China Sea and urged all parties to respect sovereignty and the need to uphold international law and the United Nations Charter.

Founded on August 8, 1967, ASEAN is composed of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
