KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- The  Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) today paid a visit to Mohamad Salman Abdullah, popularly known in the capital as ‘Frogman’ for his antics in a frog costume near the SOGO shopping centre here, to assess the type of aid that can be provided for his family.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, who led the visit to the family home in Chow Kit, here, handed over necessities and RM1,000 in cash to Mohamad Salman, 23, before briefing the family on how future aid can be effectively distributed.

Additionally, other types of assistance were offered to Mohamad Salman, including a new wheelchair, house rental, monthly assistance and medical aid to cover the treatment costs for his sister, who is facing various health complications, including nerve issues, heart problems and cataract.

Mohd Na'im said this was the fifth time that MAIWP was visiting Mohd Salman’s family, with aid also given during the previous visits.

“I informed Salman that when he gets the monthly aid and rental, he can start saving his Frogman income,” the minister said.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Salman, the second of three siblings, said he chose to drop out of school at the age of eight to help support the family, especially his sister Siti Nur Hashikin Johari, 24, a person with disabilities (PwD) with various health complications.

On the frog costume he dons in the SOGO area, Mohamad Salman said his daily income was uncertain as it depended on the public's generosity and weather conditions.

He expressed gratitude for the initiative taken by Mohd Na'im and MAIWP to visit and provide assistance to his family.

Mohd Na'im had previously said that MAIWP’s Asnaf visitation programme would be conducted regularly every month as a platform to get to know aid recipients more closely.
