KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- The dream of legendary music band, Slam, to perform on the prestigious stage of the Petronas Philharmonic Hall (DFP) here will finally become a reality on June 8.
It will be the band’s debut performance at the prestigious stage after being in the local music industry for three decades.
Slam comprises Zamani as the vocalist, Shah (guitarist), Eddie (keyboard), Lili (bass), and Man (drums).
Shah, whose real name is Shah Nizam Abdul Halim, 50, said that during the concert, Slam will also perform a selection of songs rarely performed live, including Malam dan Semalam, Bukan Niat Membalas Derita, Terasing Dalam Sepi, Suratan, Warna Kehidupan and Buat Seorang Kekasih.
“This concert is dedicated to Slam's loyal fans who have continuously appreciated and supported our artistic careers for over 30 years. So, we take this opportunity to fulfil their requests,” he told a press conference yesterday.
Shah said each work performed by Slam has always resonated closely with the taste and soul of Malay music enthusiasts, thereby becoming the strength of the group to persevere until today.
“We don't feel disheartened when people label us as a kampung band or 'leman' (known for soppy songs) and so on...in fact, we are proud of the music we bring because until now, people can still appreciate our songs. As musicians, we strive to create better musical arrangements so that they can compete with the new songs in the market,” he said.
Meanwhile, Zamani, whose real name is Zamani Ibrahim, 53, although still in the process of recovery after undergoing surgery due to scoliosis or curved spine problems, remains optimistic that everything will go smoothly.
He said he would always take care of his health to remain fit for the upcoming concert.
“Alhamdulillah, my health is still good even though not 100 per cent. I have already done two major performances after the surgery. Insya-Allah, I believe everything will be fine.
“For now, I just practise singing every day to maintain momentum and preserve stamina,” said Zamani who hopes to duet with singer Akim Ahmad of Akim & The Majistret someday.
Zamani's great perseverance to continue singing and prepare himself for the concert is also admired by all members of the band, describing him as having a God-given talent.
“When people see him sick, they start to question his credibility, but honestly, when we look at Zamani's capabilities, he is actually better than most other singers because he can sing for more than two hours without stopping.
“Recently, he even performed for three hours straight, and he was okay,” said Shah.
Fans can purchase their tickets for the concert, priced at RM188, RM248, RM288, RM388, RM448, and RM548, either via the DFP website at www.dfp.com.my, or email at boxoffice@dfp.com.my, or by contacting 03-23317007.
