KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 23 (Bernama) -- The two-day Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2024 which began yesterday at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur is set to be a catalyst for further technological innovation and progress in the country, said Chang Lih Kang.

The Science, Technology and Innovation Minister said that the MTE 2024 will harness the vast potential of Science, Technology, Innovation and Education (STIE) to address the most pressing challenges.

He said collaboration between the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and PROTEMP Group (PROTEMP) in organising the expo is a testament to the government's belief that the challenges could be overcome by working together, drawing on collective strengths, knowledge and creativity.

“From climate change and sustainable development to healthcare and digital equity, we believe that the answers lie in the power of innovation and the relentless pursuit of knowledge,” he said when launching MTE 2024 here today.

His speech was read out by Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim.

Chang said the MTE also showcases dedication to nurture a vibrant ecosystem of innovation that bridges ideas and commercialisation, whereby the MyTechMart portal serves as the backbone.

“MyTechMart is not just a platform but a bridge connecting ideas to markets, inventors to investors, and research to real-world applications. Through MyTechMart, we are setting a new standard for how innovation is nurtured, supported and accelerated from the ground up.

“This collaboration will ensure that innovative ideas can seamlessly transition from the drawing board to the marketplace. By sharing data, we are removing silos and creating a unified front to tackle the challenges of commercialising innovation. This is a bold step towards making Malaysia a global hub for technology and innovation,” he said.

The Public Service Innovation Asia (PSIA) 2024 Awards also took place during the ceremony, witnessing multiple government agencies and organisations reaping awards for their respective innovations.

Among the notable recipients is the Land and Survey Department of Sarawak, which won the Gold Award for its ‘Flextervation’ and ‘Monitoring System for Survey of Land Acquisition (MOSSLA)’. The two innovations were also conferred with Special Awards from the Japan Intellectual Property Association and The International Alliance of Innovation and Invention Associations, respectively.

The awards were presented by Aminuddin.

Meanwhile, Chair of the Awards Committee (MTE PSIA 2024) Hussein Mohd Ariff, in his congratulatory speech, said the landscape of public service in Malaysia has undergone a remarkable transformation, reflecting the resilience and adaptability of the nation since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“In the span of just a few short years, we’ve witnessed a paradigm shift, particularly in the salvation of digital solutions that have not only addressed immediate concerns but also paved the way for a more technologically integrated society.

“The public service sector, which was once reliant on traditional methods, has also undergone digital transformation, from e-governance initiatives to provision of online education and healthcare services,” he said.

Hussein added that the integration of technology has not only streamlined services but also improved accessibility, ensuring the continued provision of essential services which are a big part of the nation.
