KUALA SELANGOR, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- Members of the public attending the Central Zone MADANI Rakyat Programme held at the Kuala Selangor Sports Complex today expressed relief that the Rahmah Sales and MADANI Agro Sales, which offer cheaper prices, will be increased.

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during the closing ceremony of the programme, instructed the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) to increase Rahmah Sales and Agro MADANI Sales to alleviate the burden on the people while waiting for the prices of commodities such as rice to be finalised.

A 50-year-old housewife, K Jeyenthi, welcomed the move, saying it would help people get essential items like rice, eggs and chicken at affordable prices.

"The addition of Rahmah Sales and Agro MADANI is highly welcome; it will help people to acquire goods easily because these days it is not easy to get them. Sometimes the items are out of stock.

"In my neighbourhood in Kuala Selangor, there are Rahmah Sales three times a month. We usually go to the surrounding areas and it would be even better if there were more of them," she told Bernama.

Abdullah Asri, a 67-year-old fisherman, said he always supports all government efforts and initiatives to help the people and hopes that all plans can be implemented smoothly.

"We as citizens must support the government and the prime minister's instructions, because only to him can people complain and immediate action can be taken.

"At the same time, as a fisherman, I see that we must also try not to expect help or subsidies from the government. We also need to work with the leaders to help them make progress and change the country," he said.

Meanwhile, checks by Bernama at the Rahmah Sales tent found that some items such as rice, eggs, chicken, and meat are almost sold out and are expected to run out tonight.

According to a KPDN spokesman, the programme has generated sales of about RM180,000 as of this afternoon, thanks to purchases by 3,000 individuals over the three-day event.
