BARCELONA (Spain), Feb 26 (Bernama) -- Huawei Technologies (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to collaborate on talent development initiatives for the communications and multimedia industry in this country, besides conducting collaborative research relevant to the field.

Huawei Malaysia’s chief executive officer Simon Sun said the company is confident that their experiences, expertise and network will strongly support MCMC’s objectives and initiatives towards building a robust communications and multimedia industry talent development and research ecosystem.

“Huawei Malaysia continues to adopt a proactive stance to amplify Malaysia’s capabilities in the digital economy and global competitiveness.

“We understand that delivery standards are only as good as the talent executing them,” he told Bernama after the signing ceremony.

Through this partnership, the Digital Leadership Excellence: Navigating the Tech Frontier programme will be implemented to nurture a pool of 300 future digital leaders amongst industry and public sector personnel across three years, with the target rollout period being from 2024 to 2026.

MCMC and Huawei Malaysia will also co-develop and implement specialised programmes, micro-credentials and certifications to tackle both the current and future talent development needs of the industry.

On the research front, both parties will conduct collaborative research initiatives to identify digital competencies and skills essential for the industry's growth.

Various facets of the communications and multimedia industry will be examined alongside studies on regional, social, and digital-related topics to ensure the validity and relevance of research outcomes that will be an integral contributing factor to the industry's advancement.

Earlier, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil officiated the Malaysia Pavilion at the Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2024 (MWC 2024), the largest annual gathering in the telecommunications industry hosted by the Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA).

The four-day MWC 2024 kicks off today and is expected to convene over 100,000 telecommunications industry players.
